Dave Pickering

I grew up in Grand Blanc, MI, and was the youngest of five children born to wonderful, Godly parents. My mom was a Navy nurse before marrying my dad and a devoted homemaker throughout my growing up years. My dad was a gifted engineer at Buick Motor Division and a great help to me when it came to getting through trigonomety and physics class. I had a great love for sports growing up and played alot of baseball and football, especially. I was introduced to music through several years of piano lessons and having a father who sang in the church choir for many years.

It was a privilege to grow up in a Christian home with parents who love the Lord and continue to serve Him, well into their eighties. It was through their testimony, and having been involved in Child Evangelism Fellowship, that had an after school program held in our home, that I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior at four years of age.

I was very involved in my church youth group during high school which became my most valuable peer group. I also met a young lady there named Jenny and eventually married her after I finished college. I went to Cedarville University, a christian college, and was a psychology major. I went on to get my Master's degree in counseling at Georgia State University. After holding a handful of positions and living in a few different locations in Michigan, I currently work as a psychologist at Riversbend Rehabilitation in Bay City, MI and live in Caro, MI with my family. I have lived there since 1995. We are active members of the First Baptist Church of Caro.

My wife, Jenny, is a wonderful wife and mother and a very capable woman who I am very proud of. She is a medical assistant and now works at a doctor's office in our home town of Caro, after serving as a nurse in the school system for several years. Our oldest child, Jessica, was born in 1987 and is going to college and wants to be an athletic trainer. Our son, DJ ( David John, jr. ), was born in 1990 and is a 2008 graduate from high school. DJ plans to attend college and get a business degree and has an interest in the culinary arts. Both kids love soccer and played in high school. We love spending time together as a family. We enjoy family trips, spending time with friends, attending sporting events, and camping.

Fun facts: I am an avid golfer and love to play as much as I can, when Michigan weather permits, of course. I am a sports nut and am passionate about my Detroit sports teams and the U of M, GO BlUE. I grew up camping just about every summer as a kid and haven't yet lost my love for it. Young State Park in Boyne City is still a family favorite.
